BRUCE are Bernese Bass clarinetist and saxophonist SHA and Australian Pedal steel guitarist James Gilligan.

Gilligan radically breaks expectations in his approach to the pedal steel – with his unique understanding of sound that transcends genre boundaries, he opens up new musical space. In combination with SHA’s percussively smashing bass clarinet sound, a surprising and captivating soundscape emerges that defies simple classification. BRUCE thrives on the special distribution of roles between their instruments: bass and melody functions shift fluidly, interweaving, dissolving again, and thus creating an organic, dynamic musical structure. The duo uses this freedom to shift, condense and constantly reinvent layers of sound – a muscial conversation full of attentiveness, depth, and unexpected twists.
